Meeting Jesus Christ

JESUS SPEAKING

The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will tell us all things.” Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.” […] The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men, “Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?” Then they went out of the city and came to Him. […] And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all that I ever did.” So when the Samaritans had come to Him, they urged Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days. And many more believed because of His own word. Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.” (John 4: 25 – 26, 28 – 30, 39 – 42)

INSPIRED THOUGHTS

Having met a sinful woman near a well, Jesus expounded upon her past with supernatural precision (providing her with details that only God could know.) He abruptly identified Himself as the Messiah; prompting the Samaritan woman to re-enter the city and report this miracle to her fellow citizens. Those who believed the woman’s words received a measure of faith, which compelled them to follow her back to Jesus. The curious masses urged Him to stay and He satisfied their desires by remaining with them for two days; during which time He instructed them concerning God’s perfect will. Although the woman’s reports were the initial source of faith for many, those who truly believed were drawn out of the city to meet Jesus Christ. After listening with great enthusiasm, those who had made the journey were fully established in their faith. Those who aspire to live a Christian life will inevitably be led to the words of Jesus Christ; as expressed in the New Testament.

As the story goes, during the 1800’s, an explorer named Henry Mortan Stanley began his journey across the continent of Africa. Initially he chose to bring seventy-three books along with him, in three packs, which weighed approximately 180 pounds. After traveling 300 miles he was obliged by those who were carrying his luggage to throw away some of his books. Which he did. Still, as he continued on his trip, his library was slowly diminished; growing leaner and leaner, until he had but one book left; The Holy Bible. It is said that Sir Mortan read through the scriptures three times before his journey had ended.

The words of Jesus Christ, His messages and His teachings are immortalized within the pages of the New Testament; the only divine book ever translated. Concerning His desires, His Doctrine, and His will, we need not speculate. Instead, like the Samaritans who wandered out of the city to meet Jesus, we need only crack open the pages of God’s word (the Holy Bible.) If we endeavor to meet the real Jesus, we can easily find Him and know Him. Read His words and you will grow in your faith; listen to Him and you will be transformed, and you will know what it means to be a Christian and to walk according to God’s perfect will.

“Lord Heavenly Father, we thank You for illuminating our understanding through Your Holy scriptures. May we take solace in the bible, and may we meet the real Jesus as we continue reading. Soften our hearts, that we may receive His message and live according to His doctrines. May our faith be genuine, may our loyalty be unwavering, and may our trust in You be everlasting. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit and watch over us as we accomplish Your desires in this place. We love You Father, we praise You, and we thank You, and we ask and pray all of these things, according to Your will, in Jesus Christ’s name, amen.” God bless all of you!

The Real Jesus

JESUS SPEAKING

And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples and said to him, “Are you the coming one, or do we look for another?”  Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:  The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them.  And blessed is he who is not offended because of me” (Mathew 11: 2-6.)

INSPIRED THOUGHTS

John, believing Jesus to be the long awaited messiah, erred in assuming he would immediately usher in an earthly kingdom; thereby putting an end to the oppressive Roman rule. While in captivity, the prophet had grown impatient with Jesus; sending messengers to Him from his prison cell. ‘Was He truly the long awaited savior; or should they look for another?’ Jesus responded by quoting an ancient prophecy describing the Messiah’s good works. He would heal the blind, raise the dead, and preach the gospel to the poor; the very same acts that Jesus was accomplishing. The Lord then addressed John’s uneasy heart, saying, “Blessed are those who are not offended because of Me.” John was expecting a conquering messiah, not a messiah that would conquer sin through crucifixion. Like John, many today have an inaccurate perception of who the messiah actually is. Knowing the real Jesus is an absolute necessity if we are to properly follow Him.

Shortly after my conversion, I decided I could no longer call myself a Christian unless I actually knew who Jesus Christ was. I had to read the bible for myself; knowing full well that in so doing, many of my previously held beliefs would be challenged and transformed. In order to grab hold of the truth, I had to abandon my fuzzy perceptions of God. As I read the scriptures, I came to accurately know my creator. Still, instead of being disappointed, I was filled with awe and wonder. The real Jesus is far more spectacular than any messiah I could have ever imagined.

Do you know the real Jesus; or are you clinging to some incorrect perceptions?  Have you invented a messiah, or have you discovered Him? Read His words; uncover His works; His message; and His truth; and you too will find something more amazing than you have ever known; and your life will never be the same.

“Lord Heavenly Father, we seek to know the real Jesus.  Place His words in our hearts, that we might walk as disciples; exhibiting obedience in all that we do. May we never run from the truth, but rather, may we embrace it. We love You Father, we praise You, and we thank You, and we ask and pray all of these things, according to Your will, in Jesus Christ’s name; amen.” God bless all of you!

After baptizing Jesus, John came to believe that Jesus was the messiah they had been waiting for. He, like so many in Israel believed the Messiah would set them free from their oppressors. Therefore, most were waiting for Jesus to usher in an earthly kingdom that would put an end to Roman Rule. John (who had been imprisoned by Herod) was growing impatient with Jesus; he sent messengers to him to ask if he truly was the messiah. Jesus simply responded by quoting an Old Testament prophecy, stating that the messiah would cleanse lepers, heal the blind, raise the dead and preach to the poor. Jesus wanted John to know he was accomplishing all of these miraculous tasks. The Lord finally addressed John’s impatient heart, saying, “blessed are those who are not offended because of me.” Jesus had not met John’s expectations. John expected a conquering messiah, not a messiah that would conquer sin through crucifixion. The lord was encouraging John to accept him as he was. Many today, like John, have an inaccurate view of Jesus Christ. Knowing the real Jesus is essential to properly following him.
Early on in my relationship with God I made the decision that I could no longer call myself a Christian unless I actually knew who Jesus Christ was; what he had said and done. I knew I had to read the bible; I also knew it was going to change my life and challenge my beliefs. In my heart, I had an unclear picture of God. I chose to let go of what I thought I knew, in order to grab hold of the truth. As I read, I began to know God personally and accurately. Instead of being disappointed, my heart was lifted up with wonder and amazement. The real God is far greater than any God I could have ever imagined.
Do you know Jesus Christ? Do you know his words, or are you holding on to your own personal beliefs? Have you invented a Jesus for yourself, or have you come to know the real Jesus? Read his words; get familiar with his deeds, his message and his truth; and I promise, you will never be disappointed; instead, you too will find something more amazing than anything you have ever known, and your life will never be the same.
“Lord Heavenly Father, we desire to know the real Jesus. We want to know Your Son and His message. Implant his words in our hearts and help us to be his disciples, that we might be pleasing to You Father. Help us to let go of our fear of the truth and give us a hunger and thirst to know our Messiah; your gift to us all. We love You Father, we praise You, and we thank You, and we ask and pray all of these things, according to Your will, in Jesus Christ’s name, Amen.” God bless all of you!
