Standing Firm in the Faith

JESUS SPEAKING

“What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed, those who wear soft clothing are in king’s houses. But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet. For this is he of whom it is written: ‘Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You.'” (Matthew 11: 7 – 10)

FAITHFUL THOUGHTS

A man named John the Baptist once lived in the Judean wilderness. He rejected worldly comforts (such as soft clothing); choosing instead to wear course animal fur and eat wild locusts and honey. As he baptized people in preparation for Christ’s arrival, he remained bold at all times. He wasn’t “A reed shaken by the wind.” Those who are anchored in Christ do not waffle, waiver, or bend. Instead, they stay firm because they are rooted in God who cannot be moved.

As the story goes, in 2025, a young woman named Paige Rogers was working her shift at a coffee shop in Kentucky. When her coworkers discovered that she attended a Christian college, they began asking questions. They asked her if she was saving herself for marriage. She answered yes. They continued questioning her; which eventually prompted Paige to share her testimony; she spoke about how God had saved her and transformed her life. One of the coworkers confessed to being in a relationship with two people at the same time (apparently one of them was of the same sex.) This person asked that if she became a Christian would she have to stop loving them? Paige respectfully told her that homosexuality was a sin. Nearly two weeks later, Paige received a text from her employer informing her that she had been fired because her conversation was offensive and unwelcomed.

Like Paige, and John the Baptist, Christians around the world are called to remain firm and bold. We must never waiver or falter in the face of adversity or persecution. We are not to be shaken like a reed in the wind. If we stay grounded in Christ, our eternal foundation, then we can share the truth in love without being hesitant or fearful.

“Lord Heavenly Father, establish us in the faith, that we would remain anchored in the truth. As we spread the gospel message to others, may we never compromise our beliefs or alter the doctrines You have established for Your Church. We love You Father, we praise You, and we thank You, and we ask and pray all of these things, according to Your will, in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.” God bless all of you!

Serving One Master

JESUS SPEAKING

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” (Matthew 6: 24)

FAITHFUL THOUGHTS

Jesus proclaims that serving God requires our total and undivided allegiance. Nothing should compete with God in our hearts. The Lord Jesus identifies one of the most common things individuals elevate above God; something He referred to as “mammon.” ‘Mammon’ represents wealth, prosperity, and riches.’ So many today are comforted by and trust in their money rather than God.

In the 1980s a televangelist named Peter Popoff gained riches and notoriety through his television program. During his shows, while espousing his faith in Jesus Christ, he would pace through the crowds of people in attendance. After finding a seemingly random person, he would address them by name. Astonishingly, it seemed as though he knew everything about them; all of their ailments and their struggles. This secret knowledge was portrayed as arising from God’s divine revelation. After laying hands on that individual, he would proclaim they were healed of their infirmities. Viewers sent in massive amounts of money, believing that through their donations they also might be healed. Peter became extremely wealthy. And yet one day someone came to his show with a radio-scanner and discovered that at a certain frequency Peter’s wife was reading to him through a hidden earpiece. She was feeding him information from the cards that individuals had filled out prior to entering the auditorium. His secret knowledge was not divine or miraculous, but rather fraudulent. His empire abruptly collapsed; his ministry went bankrupt and his reputation was ruined. Peter had been found guilty of worshipping money rather than God.

In contrast, those who follow Christ must never allow anything, especially riches, to compete with their devotion to God. We must be loyal to our heavenly Father and consider His will to be paramount in all things. May we always and forever be servants of one master.

“Lord Heavenly Father, we call You our Lord. May we remain devoted to You at all times. Give us the strength and discernment to never be led astray. May we always be devoted to worshipping You in the absence of division. We love You Father, we praise You, and we thank You, and we ask and pray all of these things, according to Your will, in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.” God bless all of you!

The Good Shepherd

JESUS SPEAKING

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives his life for the sheep. But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them. The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep. I am the good shepherd.” (John 10: 11 – 14)

FAITHFUL THOUGHTS

Sheep are helpless animals that have no natural defenses. They rely entirely on the shepherd for protection. According to Jesus, the presence of genuine love cannot be fully discerned in the absence of sacrifice. Risking one’s own life to protect something important proves ownership and affection for that thing. In love, Jesus Christ laid down His life for countless numbers of men and women.

In 2022 a deranged man entered a Uvalde elementary school and began shooting students; eventually killing 21 people. What makes this terrible tragedy unique is that armed police officers arrived on the scene almost immediately (at 11:35 am), but did not enter the besieged classrooms at that time. Instead, they gathered around the parameter and did nothing while children were dying. In fact, they waited an entire 1 hour and 15 minutes before entering the room to kill the gunman (at 1:50 pm.) Simply put, they failed to act because their children weren’t in the affected classrooms. They were someone else’s kids. Around the same time, an off duty Customs and Boarder Patrol agent named Jacob Albarado was at a barbershop when he received the news about the active school shooting. Unlike the other officers, his daughter was attending the school, and his wife was a teacher there. The unarmed man borrowed a shotgun from his barber and raced to the school. He entered without hesitation and found his wife, whom he evacuated to safety. He then entered several classrooms until he found his daughter; she and her classmates were immediately evacuated. Jacob accomplished these tasks because his wife and daughter belonged to him. His love was genuine. (Note: this message is in no way meant to impugn good law enforcement officers around the world; as there are many.)

In the same way, Jesus Christ is the good Shepherd. He loves us because we belong to Him. He has proven His affections for us by sacrificing Himself upon the cross for our salvation. May we then, as His sheep, live in such a way as to please Him, and may we remain obedient to His will at all times.

“Lord Heavenly Father, we thank You for the love You have shown us through Your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. May we intimately know You and be driven to accomplish Your will in this place. We love You Father, we praise You, and we thank You; and we ask and pray all of these things according to Your will, in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.” God bless all of you!
